Winch vs Actuator for a UTV Snow Plow

Last updated: October 2, 2026.

A KFI UTV plow has to be raised for transport and lowered to plow. KFI's PRO 2.0 push tube instructions say the system needs a winch to lift it, and KFI also makes an electric-over-hydraulic actuator and a manual lever lift. Here is what KFI publishes about each option.

Option 1: Winch

  • KFI's PRO 2.0 instructions list a winch as required for lifting the system, along with the blade kit and vehicle-specific mount.
  • Example: the KFI 4500 UTV winch (U45-R2) is rated at 4,500 lbs, uses a 15/64 inch by 38 foot steel cable, weighs 36.6 lbs as a complete kit, carries a 1-year limited warranty and lists at $376.00.
  • Our KFI kit pages let you add a KFI winch in the same order, or skip it if your machine already has one.

Option 2: KFI ACT203 Actuator

  • KFI describes it as a 12 volt electric-over-hydraulic cylinder for UTV plow systems.
  • It does not include the tube system, bracket kit or wire harness; those are sold separately.
  • Brackets KFI lists: 106305 UTV PRO 2.0 actuator brackets ($103.95) and 106335 track extension actuator brackets ($113.95).
  • KFI lists a 1-year limited warranty and a $734.95 list price for the actuator.

Option 3: Manual Lever Lift

KFI lists the 106045 UTV plow lever lift at $65.95.

KFI's push tube manual says not to exceed 5 MPH, even with the blade raised, and never to stand or ride on the plow.
