Hitch and Tongue Setup
Kunz offers two hitching options on its finish cut mowers. Lawn and garden hitching "bolts directly to the existing hitch on any riding lawn mower or zero turning radius mower" and telescopes in or out to adjust for the tow vehicle's deck width. The ATV tongue is for "ATVs, utility vehicles, and all other tow vehicles without mowing decks." AcrEase rough cut mowers use a standard farm clevis, which pins to a tractor drawbar. Kunz advises against a ball hitch, which is restricted to 12 degrees of motion.
Rough Cut or Finish Cut
Rough cut (MR44 and MR55 series) is for overgrown fields, pastures, trails, food plots, and light brush. Kunz builds them with 10-gauge decks, two blades, and a belt drive, with a conservative 2-inch sapling rating. Finish cut (H40B and Pro60 series) is for maintained grass where cut quality matters, such as large lawns, parks, and the acres around the house. Lawn Tractor and Zero-Turn Notes
- Towing in tandem: Kunz says that when finish cut mowers are towed in tandem, they should not be used on slopes greater than 15 degrees.
- Mowing speed: Kunz says finish cut mowers "will do a good job at 6 to 10 MPH" in normal cutting conditions.
- Slopes: Kunz rates Kohler and Briggs & Stratton Commercial Turf engines for slopes up to 25 degrees, and says Briggs & Stratton Professional and Intek engines should not run on angles over 20 degrees for any length of time. Kunz also notes most tow vehicles become unstable after 20 to 25 degrees.
