AcrEase Pull-Behind Mowers for Can-Am Defender
Last updated: September 30, 2026. Prices update automatically from our live catalog.
The Can-Am Defender is built for work, and that includes towing a Kunz AcrEase mower. Can-Am rates every current Defender to tow at least 2,500 lbs, and Kunz lists AcrEase mowers at 235 to 580 lbs. Most Defenders also offer a selectable Turf Mode. The one thing to check is your hitch: Can-Am lists a 2-inch receiver on Defender HD7, HD9, HD10, and HD11 models, but a trailer hitch ball mount on the Defender XU, XU PRO, and XU 6x6.
Free shipping, battery included. Every AcrEase mower ships free to the contiguous US from Farm & Trail by LTL freight with liftgate service, and electric start models include a free battery.

Any Defender can handle the full AcrEase line on tow rating alone. For open pasture and food plots, the 57" MR55 series covers ground fastest; for maintained grass, look at the Pro60 series. The 44" MR44 series is the easier fit on tight trails.
Hitch and Tongue Setup
AcrEase rough cut mowers use a standard farm clevis, a C-shaped coupler that Kunz says gives "excellent freedom of motion in all directions." On a Defender with a 2-inch receiver, slide in a receiver drawbar with a pin hole and drop the clevis pin through it. Can-Am lists a trailer hitch ball mount on XU models; since Kunz advises against towing on a ball, ask your Can-Am dealer for a pin-style drawbar or clevis setup that fits your XU. Skip the ball: Kunz notes a ball hitch is restricted to 12 degrees of motion side to side and up and down. The tow bar can be set to pull directly behind or fully offset to the side of the tow vehicle.
For the finish cut line behind a Defender, Kunz pairs its finish cut mowers with the optional ATV tongue, which hitches to the tow vehicle's existing hitch with a provided clevis pin. We stock the UTV tongue assembly for the H40B and the UTV/ATV tongue assembly for the Pro60K. For Pro60B and Pro60KWE tongue setup, call 877-203-4939 and we will confirm the right configuration.
Rough Cut or Finish Cut
Rough cut (MR44 and MR55 series) is for overgrown fields, pastures, trails, food plots, and light brush. Kunz builds them with 10-gauge decks, two blades, and a belt drive, with a conservative 2-inch sapling rating. Finish cut (H40B and Pro60 series) is for maintained grass where cut quality matters, such as large lawns, parks, and the acres around the house. Kunz puts rough cut mowing speed at 4 to 10 MPH and finish cut at 6 to 10 MPH in normal conditions. Full comparison on the Rough Cut & Finish Cut Mowers page.
Can-Am Defender Notes
- Turf Mode: Can-Am lists a selectable Turf Mode on Defender HD7 through HD11 and XU models, and it is the setting to start with when mowing maintained grass. The XU 6x6 does not list Turf Mode. Check your owner's manual for how your model's modes behave on slopes and wet ground.
- Low range: Every Defender lists a low range (L or Extra-L) on its CVT, which makes a steady mowing pace easier to hold in heavy growth.
- Slopes: Kunz rates Kohler and Briggs & Stratton Commercial Turf engines for slopes up to 25 degrees, and says Briggs & Stratton Professional and Intek engines should not run on angles over 20 degrees for any length of time. Kunz also notes most tow vehicles become unstable after 20 to 25 degrees.
- Useful add-ons: the 44" and 57" electric lift kits raise and lower the deck from the driver's seat, the wetlands kit is built for marshy ground, and the hour/tach meter keeps maintenance on schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Can-Am Defender pull a 57 inch rough cut mower?
Yes. Kunz lists the 57" MR55 series at 580 lbs, and Can-Am rates current Defenders to tow 2,500 lbs (3,000 lbs for the XU 6x6).
My Defender XU came with a ball mount. Can I use it?
Kunz advises against towing an AcrEase on a ball because a ball hitch limits the coupler to 12 degrees of motion. Ask your Can-Am dealer for a pin-style drawbar or clevis setup for your XU.
Are AcrEase mowers PTO-driven?
No. Every AcrEase carries its own engine; the Defender only pulls it.
Should I mow in Turf Mode?
Can-Am offers a selectable Turf Mode on most Defenders, and it is the natural choice on maintained grass. On wet ground or slopes, follow your owner's manual and use 4WD when you need traction.
Manual or electric clutch?
Electric clutch models engage the blades with a switch, so you can start mowing from the seat. Manual clutch models carry a lower price.
